Nikos Podias

Nikos Podias (b. 1974) graduated from the Athens School of Fine Arts, where he studied in the studio of Dimitris Mytaras, and continued his education at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London, completing a Master’s degree in Scenography. In his artistic practice, he collects, transforms, and revitalizes fragments of history, cultures, and everyday life, weaving together associations and narratives. He deliberately chooses perishable materials that evoke decay and processes them with meticulous care; by salvaging and “nurturing” them, he brings both subconscious and collective memories to the surface. His work focuses on contrasting concepts such as the physical and the ethereal, the fragile and the harsh, the ephemeral and the timeless, the incomplete and the whole, structured and free-form composition. Imprinted upon his technically impeccable pieces are detail, time, care, and dedication—elements that reveal the ritualistic nature of his creative process. He was a fellow of the Alexander S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation (2000). Since 2005, he has been a member of the curatorial team for Video Art Miden, an independent organization dedicated to the exploration and promotion of video art. His works have been presented in numerous site-specific installations and group exhibitions in Greece and abroad.
