The Inherited Earth project curated by Christos Artemis, is a site-specific, interdisciplinary program developed by NWMW within the broader Fe26 research framework, unfolding in the pre-industrial quarry of Agios Eleftherios on the island of Tinos. Conceived as an experiment in temporary re-inhabitation, the residency invited artists, architects, researchers, and practitioners from diverse disciplines to live and work on-site for a two-week period, engaging directly with a rugged, post-extractive landscape. Through an open call, participants were selected to develop in-situ artistic and research-based projects, responding to fundamental questions around land use, material transformation, and the relationship between human activity and the natural environment.
At its core, the residency operates as a collective platform for knowledge exchange and situated practice, where contemporary creation intersects with local histories, crafts, and geological narratives. Participants worked with both traditional and contemporary techniques, producing visual, environmental, and socially engaged works that activate the quarry as a living field of experimentation. Emphasis was placed on collaboration with local communities and the re-reading of cultural landscapes beyond heritage preservation, framing the site as a dynamic space for research, production, and public presentation.
